On this work
A face that chooses silence. Closed eyelids, a tight-lipped mouth, a form reduced to the essentials: there is no tension, only a complete suspension from the noise of the world.
Limited edition of 3 copies, numbered and signed by the artist. Included in the curated collection “SHE IS THE VASE: Past, Present, Future,” selected by Singulart in 2025.
Cecconello shapes plaster with the same minimalism with which the archaic masters carved stone—nothing is superfluous; every curve is a deliberate choice. The stylized forms emerge from the material without decoration, without color, without anything that is not necessary.
Gastone Cecconello (Vercelli, 1942) has been working for over sixty years in sculpture, painting, and mixed media. The critic Pierre Restany has written about his work. He has exhibited at Columbia University in New York, the Staatsuniversität in Hamburg, and the Italian Cultural Institute in Vienna. At over eighty years old, he still works every day in his studio in Salussola, Biella.
